Welcome

So I've decided to finally create my blog. At first I was going to do a blog specifically on the food choices in the GTA, hence the name "Chewy's Choices". But then I thought it could be one of the focuses but I'd like to include some other things too. Maybe some personal opinions and the odd picture or two.

I think everyday we have to make many choices. We decide every day what we're going to wear, what we're going to eat, and more importantly what we're going to do. Some choices we make unconsciously while others we think long and hard. We may not always make the right choices but I think in the end we try to make the best choices for us, our family and our friends.

Hopefully I can share with you some of the choices I make (or have made) and maybe even my thoughts. Feel free to make comments or suggestions as I'm always happy to hear from my friends.

Restaurants

I guess over the years through hanging with friends and especially working in the city, I've come across a few great places to eat, and not so great places to eat.  You may not agree with on some of these but hopefully I can give you some ideas for the next time you're craving something new.  Please feel free to comment, suggest or recommend a place as well.  I'm always willing to try something new.  If you'd also like me to post on of your reviews, please let me know!!

Jessie's - If you happen to be out near the airport or even heartland during the week, make sure you stop by Jessie's.  It's not the most noticeable place, it's in a commercial area on the corner of Matheson and Kennedy in Mississauga.  They're only open on weekdays (no weekends) till about 5 or 6.  Depends on what mood Chris (the owner) is in.  When I was on the road a lot for work this was definitely a once a week place.  Chris really knows how to take care of his customers as he believes good food and customer service is the way to make repeat customers.  He also has the help of Joanna, the lovely polish lady who works the grill or register when Chris is busy.  Joanna is a sweetheart and always makes me laugh... or maybe I always make her laugh.  On to the food.  Jessie's isn't exactly a "greasy spoon" joint but you can imagine how good a sunriser is for you (it's a fried egg, bacon, lettuce and tomato on a kaiser), but it's just delicious.  If you're looking for something lighter you can go to the restaurant next door, Jessie's II.  It's run by Chris's sister.  There you can get your sandwiches, roasted meats, pasta, and even fish for those meatless Friday's.  To be honest I've never actually ate on that side, lol.  Back to Jessie's.  The main lunch menu features Pork souvlaki, grilled chicken breast, Jessie Burger (burger with peameal bacon and cheese), steak on a kaiser, and a few more other things.  If you're really hungry get a souvlaki dinner.  It comes with rice and salad.  Now half your plate is salad and the other side rice, it's topped with 3-5 sticks of soulvaki (depends on how hungry you are) and he even has some really tasty grilled vegetables.  On top of the soulvaki is Chris's homemade tzatziki.  Very good.  What's even better is Chris's homemade salad dressing.  It's so good I get salad with breakfast there.  What will get you laughing right off the bat is the mere size of the meals.  The soulvaki dinner can easily feed two people.  Chris really treats everyone like family.  I try to stop by whenever I can, which isn't very often anymore but whenever I do I'm always welcomed with a big smile and warm handshake, if I'm lucky I sometimes even get a big hug from Joanna.  Any place that will customize a sunriser for me, or make us an Australian breakfast is definitely a ten in my book.  If you get a chance, stop by and say hello for me.  They know me as Alex and if you're in the right mood ask for Alex's special sunriser... you'll love it.

If you've never been here you have to give it a try.  I recently went with a few good friends who have never been before.  We attended the one in Mississauga near square one.  I've never been there myself as I've always gone to the one downtown, but this one was nice, and parking is free.  This isn't your everyday steak joint like the Keg (I do enjoy the Keg), but it's a nice quiet atmosphere where you can expect to pay approx. $100 per person all said and done (though it'll depend on how much you drink too).  All the steaks are USDA prime I believe.  They come out on these scorching hot plates and they have butter on them, you can ask for extra butter if you're feeling extra special.  The sizzling sound of the butter only enriches the mouth watering smell of a perfectly cooked steak.  That first bite into the tender and moist meat almost melts in your mouth, much like the butter on the plate.  The steaks come with no sides so you need to order those seperately.  I believe we ordered the mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, and steak fries.  Oh and one big ass baked potatoe with everything on it (sour cream, butter, chives, and bacon).  The sides are okay, they're a little pricey (around $10 each), but the steak is where it's at.  Here's a picture of the cowboy rib steak I got with the bone in.
I think I heard him say it was 32oz... but after eating it I'm thinking he said 22oz.  But either way it was heaven on a plate.  I can't compare to Morton's or Hy's but I have been to Harbour 60 and thought the steak there was very good as well, but it's been a while.  I think our next steak is going to by Hy's.  I think I'm going to have to rock the blazer for that place.
