Last night some very good friends and I decided to go out for dinner to Ruth Chris's Steak House. The steak was amazing. I'll put my review of it in the restaurants section. It was fun night with lots of laughs and plenty of food.
I guess one thing that came up in our conversation last night was our individual little "quirks", some may call them pet peeves or funny habits. It's interesting that you can know someone for so long and not know some of these "quirks". But I guess these things make us who we are. For whatever reason we all have certain likes and dislikes. I'd like to think that I'm pretty easy going and I don't have many issues, but then again, if you ask my friends they may have a list 3 feet long.
Hmm, what kind of things don't I like? I don't like crowds. I don't go shopping on weekends because of that. I guess being a bigger guy when I'm in a crowded area I find that I either get constantly hit, or there's way too many strangers in my personal space. Don't get me wrong, if there's a party or large gathering of friends I'm all game for that, I guess it's just strangers are unpredictable and to be honest I don't think they really care about anyone else. I've mentioned that every day I try to make one stranger smile. It could be at Tim Horton's when getting a coffee, or holding that door for the next person to walk in, or even last night at dinner our server mentioned to me that it was the first time today that someone called him "sir". It's because we have a mutual respect for one another. He has to respect me given that I'm the customer (whether I'm right or wrong, the customer is always right) and I can respect anyone that works hard, is professional, and is going to bring me a butter broiled USDA Prime Cowboy Rib-eye. Lol, sorry losing focus for second. I'm not sure this making a stranger smile thing makes a difference but I don't see how it can hurt. And really it's not like I actively search for this stranger, just being myself seems to work just fine.
We also talked last night about my desire to open up my own business. One train of thought was to use my comedic abilities to good use. Such as being a public speaker. Nope, not my thing. However I have MC'd two weddings, a retirement party and going to be MC'ing another friends wedding Oct. 2011. I would like to think I'm a pretty funny guy, but to be honest, you have to meet my friends from my University track team. Whenever you put us all in a room together it's like comedy central live. We represent a diverse number of cultures (Chinese, Jamaican, Scottish, Sri Lanken, to name a few) but we are all so similar. Actually I'm surprised we get together at all as we always tend to pick on one another whenever we see each other. Maybe we could do an Improv night at my place. I think that would be hilarious.
I'm going to have to think of some things for my buddies wedding next year, I'll probably ask you all for some ideas or your thoughts on some of my ideas. It should be fun.
Tomorrow is Halloween, have a safe and great Halloween. I'll be chillin' in the pumpkin patch.

Welcome
So I've decided to finally create my blog. At first I was going to do a blog specifically on the food choices in the GTA, hence the name "Chewy's Choices". But then I thought it could be one of the focuses but I'd like to include some other things too. Maybe some personal opinions and the odd picture or two.
I think everyday we have to make many choices. We decide every day what we're going to wear, what we're going to eat, and more importantly what we're going to do. Some choices we make unconsciously while others we think long and hard. We may not always make the right choices but I think in the end we try to make the best choices for us, our family and our friends.
Hopefully I can share with you some of the choices I make (or have made) and maybe even my thoughts. Feel free to make comments or suggestions as I'm always happy to hear from my friends.

How ironic that you talked about "quirks" with your friends this weekend. I had to work on Saturday and my coworkers and I were talking about my quirks and then I had a conversation with my friends later that night.
ReplyDeleteMike wrote out a list of my quirks and I plan to share them on my blog later this week. Don't forget to check it out.
You always make me laugh Alex!...and once again..."always a pleasure"..
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!! I check it every few days...but don't be calling me a stalker just yet.
